#TRENDYTUESDAY: Neon Lights
urn on the lights, I'm looking for my neon turtleneck! Some might think this is only a nighttime trend, and they're wrong. Welcome to the age of Day-Glo! Back in the ‘80s, this blinding trend was worn on every block. Everything from accessories to socks were awash in bright colors.
In the ‘90s we obsessed over our glowing shoes and Cosby sweaters, while today we embrace our inner-Lisa Frank, resurrecting this ‘80s trend and reviving our fluorescent past. Maximalists can flaunt neon as a full aesthetic, from head to toe, while minimalists use it to accent their monochrome wardrobe. Neon is seriously that versatile.
FROM RUNWAY TO EVERYDAY
Rocking an H&M neon turtle neck is singer/songwriter Andrew Buse. To create this modern look, I couldn't help but layer him in a classic short-sleeved shirt, which features subtle neon lines crossing through each intersection of its pattern, highlighted by the turtle neck. To boost this vocalist’s levels, I added a pair of timeless tartan pants from Zara. This would be the perfect outfit for running errands on a cool spring day, then later heading to dinner with friends. This is what I call "casual" and my friends call "extra".

DON'T RUN-A-WAY
Neon is the new black; don’t try and change my mind. This season we are seeing lots of neon making its appearance on the runway. The inimitable Jeremy Scott, Creative Director of Moschino, brought the circus to town with his '70s-infused, caged tiger plush and balloon animal-decorated Spring/Summer 2019 Fashion Show. This flamboyant collection was filled with beading, embroidery, and neon. This may sound overwhelming, but trust me, Jeremy can make anything fashionable.

Marching down the runway with their signature theme is Gucci, fusing the pattern clashing trend with neon on LSD, creating diverse alternatives for your everyday look.

We cannot forget that the runway is about being avante garde while providing inspiration. It is our job as fashion enthusiasts to create our own unique combinations. Fashion week was a battle of the lights and I don’t know who won. I just hope you're on the winning team.
NEON X STREETWEAR
Neon x Streetwear is such a clean combination. This style of neon can be worn as a pop of color against a black and white canvas, or make a statement with a complementary color. This trend is all about taking risks and grabbing attention. How will people react when they see you? You’ll never know unless you try.

ATHLEISURE OR NAH?
Athleisure is more than just comfort and convenience. While anyone can throw on a pair of track pants and head out the door, pulling it together for an intentional look requires more thought. Having an athletic style doesn't necessarily make gym-wear fashionable and doesn’t classify it as streetwear. Designers like Alexander Wang are defining athleisure as a more comfortable approach to fashion. Integrating neon into your athleisure wardrobe can be equally as exciting as incorporating it in your streetwear style. From Scuba to track suits, you can energize an occasion with your vibrant personality and outfit. Why arrive without everyone knowing? I encourage you to walk into the room wearing the IT color.

VIBRANT, YET SOPHISTICATED
Coordinating classic suiting with such an energetic trend might seem like an odd way of dressing. Surprise, surprise, anything is possible in fashion, and rules are meant to be broken. The next time you’re shopping do without thinking! Neon is all about grabbing attention, so, without further ado, drop some jaws with your radiant suit, or simply mix and match a neon gingham tie with your neon socks for a more subtle addition.
