#TRENDYTUESDAY - Power Clash
ower clashing won’t kill you if it didn’t kill me. From faux snakeskin to tartan plaid, to the classic benton-striped tee, there's room for patterns in everyone’s closet. What is Power clashing? This is an everyday, unisex trend capitalizing on pairing together two or more seemingly incompatible patterns, creating an eye-catching new juxtaposition. You can bring this into both casual and formal attire, using anything from accessories to a graphic tee.
Don’t be discouraged! This is the perfect trend for introverts, extroverts, and anyone in between. If you struggle with meeting or approaching new people, this is a game changer for you. Have you ever noticed how people react when they see a great outfit? They compliment you and begin a conversation to get to know you. Power clashing is a great way to be noticed and get people to approach you.
MY STYLE, NOT YOURS
If you ask me, I would describe my style as Smart Streetwear. I find myself dressing in a manner that borrows from grunge and streetwear aesthetics, while remaining tailored and minimalistic. When I first heard about this trend I was immediately petrified. What am I supposed to wear? Normally, we wake up and grab a pattern or texture and surround it by things that complement it. But why wear one pattern when you could wear two?

Rip the Runway
The runway is for inspiration, not expectations. Spring/Summer 2019 was "go pattern or go home", and lots went home. This trend is recognized as streetwear, but also dressy. Tom Ford, Leader of the Eveningwear, crafted a polished collection, filled with patterns and staples for your closet. How can anyone deny a closet filled with kaleidoscopic evening jackets created by a legend? Meanwhile, Gucci crafted an explosive '70s and '80s version of power clash, and Acne Studios gave birth to a polished and cluttered power clash. (Images are Tom Ford, Gucci, and Acne, respectively)

THE EVERYDAY CASUAL
Taking inspiration from these runway legends, try power clashing with your everyday and casual look! With this flexible trend, you can walk into any room and turn heads. Start with layering one item that is classic, modern, sleek, or even a simple horizontal stripe and clash it with another pattern that has some funk. Have fun and be creative by layering two tops for a cooler look, or try a warmer feel by adding a textured jacket to clash with your patterned pants.
JUST BE CREATIVE
If you’re feeling crazy, then take this trend to the next level! For a more creative or eccentric take on this trend, use three patterns. Give the world a combination we didn’t expect, and don’t second guess yourself! Power clashing is all about being confident and trying something new. Show them what your mama gave you by walking into the room with an outfit covered in style.
FORMALLY KNOWN
It isn’t a trend if it isn’t stylistically versatile. Yes, you can power clash with dressier attire and still look stunning, but if you're rocking a jeweled tone suit, pleated pants, or gator shoes, adding a spice of pattern to your mix can be quite pleasing. This trend isn’t focused on streetwear or being crazy. Simply by adding an edgy gingham tie to a soft pinstripe shirt, you've already elevated your suit. For those who are feeling especially adventurous, try wearing a full suit with a clashing blazer and trousers for your next meeting. You're welcome!

Hello Evolution
On February 1st I made an announcement that I am rebranding, and that didn't mean I was changing my brand drastically. I've been receiving constructive criticism about my brand being confusing and inconsistent. I wasn't taken aback by that because I had identified aspects of my brand that needed to be developed. Moving forward, my vision and look are the same but my website is updated, my work is stronger, my logo is at its peak, and I have evolved into my true form. I am finally taking ownership of my talents, and I chose this rebranding as a way to showcase my new state of mind.
